Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC), the University of Aberdeen and Society for Underwater Technology are proud to announce that OCEANS 2017 will be held in Aberdeen 19th - 22nd June.

The IEEE/MTS OCEANS Conference and Exhibition brings together professionals from the global marine community, involved in all aspects of the marine engineering and science industry.  Last held in Aberdeen in 2007, Oceans ’07 brought over 1,000 delegates to the region and was the first time the meeting had been held in the UK.

The prestigious Oceans series of conferences is recognised as the premier forum for the international marine community to meet and discuss topical issues in a format of easy information exchange.

OCEANS is brought to Aberdeen through partnership between the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Oceanic Engineering Society (OES) along with the Marine Technology Society (MTS), and will be co-chaired locally by Professor John Watson of the University of Aberdeen, who was instrumental in securing the Conference, and David Liddle of the Society for Underwater Technology, a supporting society.  Committee members comprise industry experts and leading academics in the field.

The autumn conference is held annually in America, with an additional programme of spring conferences alternating between Europe and the rest of the world.

Conference Chair John Watson commented: “Following the success of OCEANS ’07, I am proud that IEEE/OES and MTS asked me if they could come back to Aberdeen in 2017.  This is testament to the quality of the programme, the social events and technical framework for the last Conference, as well as Aberdeen as a destination for large conferences.  With its strong background of oil and gas technology and its growing experience in renewable energy, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are an ideal location for OCEANS and we look forward to welcoming everyone back and hopefully adding a lot of new delegates.”

Graeme Cumming, Acting Managing Director of AECC said; “We are happy to have secured the 2017 international OCEANS Conference for Aberdeen following on from an extremely successful conference in 2007.  We have close links with the University of Aberdeen and the Robert Gordon University and working together gives us a strong position for hosting conferences such as this prestigious marine engineering event.”
