Title: T7 Fibre Optic Sensors.

Presenter:  Dr. Radhakrishna Prabhu of the Robert Gordon University.

Duration: 1/2 day in the afternoon (13:00 to 16:30).

Description: This tutorial will cover the basics of fibre optics, their applications in various fields, (especially focused on marine/ underwater/subsea environment, and oil and gas industry applications) and emerging trends in industry. The basics will cover light guiding mechanism, step index, graded index, single mode and multimode fibres. Applications will cover sensing, power delivery, illumination and communication. Emerging trends in Industry will cover underwater sensing/imaging applications, special/new designs fibres (PCF).

Target Audience:Scientists and engineers interested in optical fibre sensing. The attendee will gain a basic understanding of fibre optics technology, various types of sensors and their applications in various fields.
